That's right, the time is drawing near until its release date. I will note that while the Amazon.com item page says the book will be available July 31, that date is likely to change as I am planning on an earlier release. Also, by pre-ordering, you are guaranteed the lowest price available between now and the release date. So what are you waiting for? :)

Cover reveal for Dragon's Destiny!

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for...

Here's the cover to my children's fantasy novel, Dragon's Destiny. Special thanks to Sherry Boyd-Yost with Lost Art Originals and Matt Gazewood with MG Graphic and Design. I will be setting up pre-orders soon, so don't forget to check back and see how you can reserve your copy. In the meantime, I leave you with the description found on the back cover:

Long ago, the planet Zebunon III was a very different place. There was war. There was slavery. But most of all, there was magic.

When six-year-old Amadeus runs away from home, he doesn't know that he's running toward something. But before long, he finds himself in a sequence of events over which he has no control. He sees his mother alone with a stranger. Amadeus is caught by slave traders. And a mysterious blue dragon keeps showing up in his dreams unexpectedly.

Will Amadeus discover the meaning of these events? And is he bound to be enslaved forever? In time, he'll find the twists and turns his life takes may be leading toward an ultimate destiny.

Get ready for June 15!

Big things are happening with Dragon's Destiny.

I am still waiting on proof copies to arrive and a few volunteers have agreed to do the final round of proofreading. I'll be able to start taking pre-orders soon, so keep an eye out here an at Amazon.com.

But that's not all: On June 15, I will be doing my cover reveal! I really love how it turned out, and I think you will appreciate it as well. I'll be posting my cover image and a short blurb about Dragon's Destiny on this blog and on my Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/kennisonbooks. I will also soon be revealing the details of my release date and prize giveaway.

Author Support

I've been thinking about something a lot lately that I think other writers should consider: Don't underestimate the power of local author groups.

The Elko County Writers started in 2013 with the simple mission of helping and offering support to local authors. I joined the group in February of that year with hopes of having some people that could offer me feedback for my writing. But it ended up giving me much more than that.

Thanks to this group and its leader, Brandy M. Miller, I soon undertook the mission of finishing the book I'd started in November 2011. The writers held me accountable to meeting my weekly goals. Not only that, but I was asked to proofread "The Write Time: How to Find the Time You Need to Write a Book." In doing so, I found several of the points Brandy M. Miller made to be very helpful. The basic premise: You have all the time you need, it's what you do with it that counts. This book offered suggestions on how I could find the time I needed simply by getting my priorities straight.

But back to the group: Since it began, it has grown to more than 20 members and has published its own anthology. I wasn't the first to finish a book since joining, but I am among the first of what is sure to be an ongoing tradition.

If you want to write your own book and know a local author or a writers group, I'd seriously recommend starting there. You never know what it may lead to.

So who am I, anyway?

Greetings readers! This blog is the personal page of Heather Kennison, author. My first book, Dragon's Destiny, will be published this summer. Here's a little bit about myself:

Heather Kennison was born and raised in rural northeastern Nevada. She graduated from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, 2012 with a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication and a bachelor's in Spanish. She later returned home to write for her local newspaper.

In her spare time, Kennison enjoys writing both fiction and nonfiction, including poetry. She is inspired by themes of faith, identity and destiny. Dragon's Destiny began as an idea she had in high school, and Kennison finally started writing it in 2011. She finished the last 25,000 words of the book on her smartphone. The book is scheduled for release in summer 2014.

I will keep you updated on my projects on this blog. You can also visit my Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/kennisonbooks.
